A useful IQF broccoli quotation starts with a product brief that can be checked by both buyer and manufacturing partner. “Broccoli florets” alone does not define the floret diameter, stalk allowance, defect tolerances, blanching status, pack format or intended application.
US buyers should also separate the commercial RFQ from the final compliance review. Destination requirements, importer responsibilities and label details must be confirmed for the actual product and route rather than copied from a generic checklist.
1. Identify the exact broccoli format
Specify florets, cuts or another intended style, then state the target size range and acceptable stalk proportion. Include whether the product will be used for foodservice sides, retail packs, ready meals or further processing because each application values appearance, breakage and cooking performance differently.
Codex provides an international reference for quick-frozen vegetable preparation and frozen condition, but a commercial specification still needs buyer-agreed tolerances for colour, defects, loose pieces and sensory performance.[1]
2. Define the pack and receiving conditions
State inner pack weight, bulk or retail format, outer case requirement, label language, pallet constraints and destination port. Confirm the required frozen storage statement and how receiving temperature or temperature records will be reviewed.
If artwork or private label is required, identify who supplies approved copy and when it must be available. Do not assume that a quotation includes artwork approval, destination label review or a particular packaging material unless those items are stated.
3. Make the quotation comparable
Provide estimated order or annual volume, target delivery window, destination and Incoterm preference. Ask suppliers to identify any assumptions instead of filling gaps silently. This makes later comparisons more useful than collecting headline prices against different product definitions.
Attach or describe the buyer's test method where texture, cook yield or defect counting is important. A representative sample should be assessed under the buyer's actual cooking or manufacturing process before approval.
